260. Trivia at The Wildcat

For those of you who may not know, trivia might as well be my middle name…

I mean, not really, but…

When you’ve got a city like this, with a lot of really smart people, trivia is close to impossible to win. I’ve played at a dozen or so places with very smart people, whose brilliance ranges from Back to the Future knowledge to Geography and we come close to winning but there’s always that ONE team…

the-wildcat

The Wildcat is a great spot to go to trivia, and it’s relatively fresh here in Syracuse. They just started doing trivia in June. They’ve got great food, tons of activities and usually a pretty good crowd. They also have summer volleyball leagues…to keep in mind for next year! In the mean time, Trivia is every Tuesday night starting at 7. You can have between 1-7 people on your team and it’s free to play!

Tip: It’s hosted by one of my favorite trivia company’s in town, Syracuse Trivia Company. Stop by their webpage or like them on facebook to get access to free answers and themes for the week!

231. Trivia at Al’s

I think it’s pretty obvious that the trivia scene around Syracuse is poppin.

I kid you not, there are at least 3 different trivia’s going on every night of the week from Dewitt to Phoenix. On any given Monday night you can find me at Kitty Hoynes trivia, on any Tuesday over at Coleman’s. They are each wildly different in style, crowd and difficulty…which is why I love it so much! And like I tell my friends, you can never have enough trivia!

alstriviaI heard about Al’s trivia through an email from a reader. I LOVE getting suggestions on things to do around here…I know I’m not the fanatical expert on stuff in Syracuse, and hearing other peoples ideas is really awesome. #1 surprising thing about this blog so far, (and yet at the same time not so surprising) finding 231 things to do in this city hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it would be.

So imagine my surprise when I was introduced to another trivia! This trivia starts at 8:30 Monday nights at Al’s. Also one of the coolest spots in all of Syracuse, that is a fact. It’s sort of similar to Kitty Hoynes where they pass out questions, you’ve got time to ponder with your team, you hand them back in…there are 4 rounds and a bonus round.

Tip: Team sign up starts at 8:15

98. Smartass Trivia at Nibsy’s

Remember when I said that I liked trivia? And remember when I featured Smartass Trivia, a few weeks ago? Did you know that there’s more than one Smartass Trivia located in the Syracuse area? There’s quite a few, actually!

Exciting!

When people ask me what to do around town the first thing I tell them is trivia. I don’t know what it is, but I love trivia. Not to mention, there is literally trivia played every single night in Syracuse. I really enjoy being able to put my knowledge of random facts together with my friends. We walk away either arguing over a question or high-fiving because we pulled an answer out of nowhere and it was right!

Every Monday you can find my friends and I huddled in the corner at Kitty Hoyne’s playing trivia, and more recently at Coleman’s but now I’m tempted to venture out…check out other trivia’s…and one of those trivia’s on my list is at Nibsy’s.

nibsys

Just a few blocks from Coleman’s, Nibsy’s has a rival (and MUCH less crowded) trivia going on.  Their questions are equally as hard and it’s just as competitive. Coleman’s trivia on Tuesday nights is a lot of fun, but there are a lot of people…sometimes more than 30 teams (!!!) and you need to get there VERY early (think 7:30-8pm for 9pm trivia) to reserve a spot and freshen up on random facts.

If you’re interested in something a little more low key with less crowd, pop on over to Nibsy’s.

They’ve got themed “quizzes” as they like to call the trivia, and 3 separate games. Starting at 7:30, 8:30 & 9:30 get a 6 chances to win prizes & drinks! WOO!!

Tip: You can only have 6 people on your team, so choose from your friends wisely!

Also, check the Nibsy’s facebook page on Tuesday’s for the evenings categories.

72. SmartAss Trivia at Wise Guys

Remember when we talked about open mic night at Wise Guys? Did you know they also do trivia?

syracuse_ny_Wise_Guys

As you may know, I’ve become a bit obsessed with Trivia. Each and every Monday  I round the troops and we go to Kitty Hoynes to test our skills and I also recently checked out Coleman’s Trivia which is a lot of fun as well. There are a lot of smart people in this city…which makes it challenging, yet very exciting!

Wise Guys also has free trivia every Wednesday. Starts at 7:30, plays 3 rounds and hosted by the ever so funny Steve Patrick.  These types of events are great for during the week because it breaks up the same old mundane day-to-day routine. Plus, it’s hysterically funny.

Make sure to check this out!

Tip: Immediately following Trivia stick around for Amateur night!

64. Coleman’s Trivia

Question: What river forms much of the border between Canada and New England?

Being from New York, most of you, I expect you to know that the answer is the St. Lawrence River….y’all.

Trivia questions are difficult…I will admit, I get maybe 46% of them right…but playing trivia with friends is so much fun. Each (and almost) every Monday you can find me & some friends at Kitty Hoynes trivia. We have won, we have lost…but each time we have fun.

So, imagine my excitement when I realized that there’s basically trivia every night around town! Tuesday’s trivia is at Coleman’s.

coleman-s-bar

Hosted by The Syracuse Trivia Company, they attract teams — sometimes as many as 9 players, to partake in the chance of becoming the smartest people in the neighborhood one day a week. Which, if you’re ever feeling like you’re not that smart…just win trivia…you’ll immediately feel like you can change the world, one factoid at a time.

Coleman’s trivia sign-up starts at 8pm on Tuesdays (it’s free to play!), but you might want to get there a little early to grab a bowl of popcorn, a drink & a table. Here are the rules on how to play.

14. Trivia at Kitty Hoynes

Question. Can you name three films with one word titles, and beginning with the same letter of the alphabet, which starred the actress Cher?*

Trivia. I love trivia. I like to think I am really good at trivia…but then I realize I’m not. However, trivia is one of those things people consistently try very hard at even if they’re really bad at it.

Just a sidenote: if  Friday Night Lights trivia ever comes to Syracuse I will win. Without a doubt.

Starting Monday night’s at 8pm, Kitty Hoynes hosts a (somewhat difficult, but always fun) trivia night.

large_kittyhoyneext

Grab all of your smartest friends; those who know the most random things and stop by Kitty Hoynes. Come early for a drink and to grab a spot to sit, it’s bound to fill up quick!

Location: The corner of West Fayette & South Franklin St in Armory Square.
