224. Red House Arts Center

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of seeing a show at the Red House Arts Center. From the outside, it’s a fascinating building…it looks almost too modern to be a part of the city…which is what is so eye catching about it. They draw on the exterior walls with Chalk to display the upcoming events and there are statues adorning the top of the building (you’ve really got to look for them, but they’re SO cool!).

red houseI had no idea what to expect, but when I left I was completely in love with it.

I saw Shrek The Musical…which was 100% enjoyable and entertaining. I laughed out loud many times. The cast was creative with the space, and the music was great…everything about it was really fun! The stage is not elevated, it’s just right there in front of you which makes the entire experience that much more intimate. You feel like you’re a part of the show, like you’ve got something to offer the actors.

I even got to enjoy a local beer during intermission!

red house1The Red House was awesome. I love every opportunity to support the arts here in Syracuse. If you get a chance, check out a show or event at The Red House. Their next production is called Songs of a New World, you can buy tickets here!

I can’t wait to watch some other things at Red House, like their open mic night!

Tip: There’s more to the Red House than just theater…they also have delicious food! Stop in to the Cafe for lunch and try one of their famous paninis!
