Have you ever swam 1.2 miles in open water, followed by bike 56 miles and then after that run a 1/2 marathon?
Not many people can say that they have. The people capable of an Ironman are highly focused, elite, well trained, motivated, and inspiring.
This weekend, right here in Syracuse, these athletes will travel from all over to participate in the Ironman 70.3 Syracuse. It is comparable to the Ironman competition held in Lake Placid earlier in the year.
I want to watch this race, I want to be there to cheer on these people who spend hard working days in the office and then evenings and weekends training for an event that will put them into a category reserved for Ironman Finishers.
The race begins in Jamesville Reservoir with the 1.2 mile swim. Followed by a 56-mile bike ride. They’ll finish their race with a half marathon in and out of Jamesville Beach. This weekend the temperature is slated to be 84 degrees, so not only will the course be challenging but the weather will factor in as well.
Tip: There should be over 1000 athletes competing in this event. If you’re a spectator make a sign & go on out to cheer them on!
